Episode 2

Attack of The Clones is the second movie of nine. This movie is set ten years after The Phantom Menace.   The movie starts out with Senator Padme Amidala arriving at Coruscant to debate a military creation act that would allow the Republic to form an army against the separatists.  As she arrives the ship that was thought to be transporting her, but was actually carrying her decoy, blows up and Padme survives the assassination attempt.  This forces Chancellor Palpatine to request that Obi Wan and his apprentice Anakin Skywalker to protect Padme during her stay.  Later that night another assassination attempt is made on Padmes life, this time Obi Wan and Anakin are able to track down the assassin.  As they begin interrogating the assassin a saberdart is fired and strikes the assassin, killing her right as she was about to say who she was hired by.  As Obi Wan is investigating who shot the saberdart he makes his way to the planet Kamino.  He discovers the creation of a massive clone army that was made for the Republic.  The prototype for the clones is bounty hunter Jango Fett.  Obi Wan comes to believe that Jango is the man he is looking for.  The two ultimately begin fighting and Jango and his son Boba are able to escape but Obi Wan manages to put a tracking device of their ship.

While all of this is happening Anakin and Padme are spending a lot of time together.  It is clear that there is a connection.  Eventually Anakin confesses his love for Padme.  Padme resists due to the fact that Anakin is a Jedi and she is a senator.  This is kind of the beginning where we see Anakin face some inner conflict between his feelings for Padme and his responsibility as a Jedi.

Obi Wan eventually tracks Jango back to the planet of Geonosis where he learns of Count Dooku's droid army.  Count Dooku manages to capture Obi Wan during this process.  Anakin and Padme become aware of Obi Wans capture and make there way to Geonosis to rescue him and they ultimately are also captured.  All three are then sentenced to death where they are forced to battle three different creatures while being chained up.  On there way out to the arena where they are sentenced Anakin and Padme both confess their love for each other.  As the creatures are sent out to kill the three Jedi master Mace Windu and a team of Jedi arrive.  As a big battle breaks out Jango Fett engages Mace Windu in the battle and Mace Windu ultimately kills Jango.

A few moments later Obi Wan and Anakin discover Count Dookus location.  The arrive at the location and begin fighting.  Dooku's mastering of the dark side and his lightsaber combat style are no match for Obi Wan and Anakin.  During the battle Anakin gets his hand sliced of by Dooku's lightsaber.  Yoda then appears to battle Dooku.  During the fight Dooku realizes that he cannot defeat Yoda and trys to push a pillar on top of Anakin and Obi Wan as a distraction and ultimately escapes. This scene is another one of the best lightsaber battles in Star Wars. We see Dooku using force lighting along with his unorthodox lightsaber combat technique. This is the beginning of the clone wars.

The movie ends with Anakin and Padme hosting a secret wedding on Naboo.  During this movie we see Anakin and the Jedi council begin to disagree a lot of times.  As I mentioned before Anakin begins to have inner conflict between his personal feelings and a Jedi's responsibility.  This is the beginning of a dark path for Anakin as we will see in the next movie.

  1. Hi Lucas, I enjoyed this recap of the film. It made me remember things I have forgotten about it. This is my least favorite of the movies, but I would've liked to hear a bit of your thoughts as a fellow Star Wars fan.
This series of blogs has made me want to rewatch the prequels. I've seen the original trilogy and the sequels multiple times but I've only seen Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones once and Revenge of the Sith twice.. I should change that.
